(AKA I'm going to Italy!) While I've had the privilege to travel internationally quite a bit in the past, I've never had the opportunity to explore Europe. While our class (Italian Art 322) will be exclusively visiting Rome, Pompeii, and Florence, I'm nonetheless excited to discover the artworks and culture that we've discussed at length in lectures. As one of my co-workers said the other day— "It's one thing to look at something in a textbook or on a slide, it's another to see the real thing." Indeed, I look forward to marveling at Michelangelo's masterpieces, basking in the affluence of the Medici palace, or getting lost in the illusions of Pozzo. We'll soon be on the plane to Roma! Check back with me tomorrow for an update (updates will occur daily). If you'd like to check out some of the major works we'll be seeing throughout this trip, I attached a Word doc below with info on some individual pieces. Arrivederci for now. :)
