Final Project: Jordan Hollow Stables
Reflection:
I had so much fun making this video! I have been involved with Jordan Hollow Stables since I was six; the beauty of Appalachia brought me to the Shenandoah Valley, and Lisa Cubbage (owner/operator of JHS) is one of the many reasons I stayed. Jordan Hollow Stables is truly a family-owned business, and in Lisa's own words: "The horses are my family, therefore, it is a family business!"
There are a few interesting shots that didn't quite make the final cut, one being a wide angle shot of a horse named Dakota Jo standing in a field, and another of ol' Joe having a "poop party" while walking away from the camera. On a more serious note, Lisa's interview was about nine minutes long total, and I would have loved to include the entire thing– her story of being given horses from a competitor to start her career, her heart-wrenching tales of rescuing horses from slaughter, and her inspirational message about contributing as a small business to the socioeconomically-challenged town of Stanley are certainly worth hearing.
Nonetheless, I am proud of this video package, and proud to proclaim Lisa Cubbage's Jordan Hollow Stables as a truly exceptional business in Appalachia.
